Wow is all i can say. This machine comes standard with a titanium composite top cover,Intel Mobile Pentium III up to 850MHz. Up to 128MB to 512MB RAM (std/max). Travel weight starting at 6 lbs. Microsoft Windows 2000 professional or Windows 98 second edition. Up to 4 hr battery life. It is also equipped with a 56K/V.90 modem or combined 56K V.90/Ethernet. And there is plenty more. Let me start by saying that this computer has is a little bit highly priced, but it is well worth it, and i for one would pay more.
Ok let me start with the titanium covers. It is a thin layer of titanium on the top of the notebook. Some of the other new notebooks from ibm have top and bottom covers but this one comes with just top, (but i am sure for a little extra money you could get the bottom one also). The covers are a nice accessory more for stylish reasons than for protection.
Next item of business is the Mobile Pentium III. You can get this thing stocked up to 850MHz. Now that is real power. You also can get up too 512MB RAM standard RAM is 128MB. I can remember back in the day when 32MB was like technology that only NASA had. This is a big step up. I also remember seeing somewhere that you could get up to a 30GB hard drive. Can you believe that 30GB. For the people who aren't computer literate. That is a lot. This computer is faster than my car. Which isn't to hard to believe.
You also get 24X-10X CD-ROM or 8X-2.3X DVD-ROM and in my mind this type of technology is unheard of. And if that isn't enough it also comes equipped with up to a 15" TFT display with resolution up to 1600 x 1200.
This "BEAST" also has wireless internet options. Which a lot of people like when they are on the go. And on top of everything it has a 1 to 3 year warranty, and the tech support at IBM is outstanding. Now in all of the time i have used the thinkpad A series i have only found 2 things that i do not like. One is the mouse is too small and hard to get used to, but the brains at IBM were one step ahead of me, and they made an external mouse which is easier to use and is much less of a hassle. The other thing that i didn't like is that after i bought it i found it's sister system the Thinkpad T-20. Now if i would have seen it before the A-series it would have definitely been mine, but the T-20 has everything that a computer ever needs, and has the price that every computer doesn't. But for your money the A-Series is perfect. And i recommend it to everyone
