Pros: Usually dependable, effective screen, easy to transport
Cons: Battery life is short; PC may crash with large Excel programs; printer port often malfunctions
The Bottom Line: One of the fundamental reasons consumers purchase a laptop is because it is portable, and can allegedly run 2 hours on a battery. IBM's claim is apparently false.

I have been living in China for 2 years and one of the few things I brought with me was my IBM PC. It is usually reliable but I have two recurring problems. First, the battery condition, which was never great, continues to erode - 5 minutes maximum now. In addition, I have noticed that my system often crashes when I go to a print command within large Excel files. (A Word file prints without any problems). Otherwise I am happy - I'm connected to the internet and can communicate with the world. However, my worst fear is a power failure because I know the battery is virtually useless.
One of the fundamental reasons people buy a laptop is that it is portable. However, what good is a fast processor, etc., if you can't even turn on the PC? The reliability of the battery is such an issue for me now, it will probably determine my next purchase. I have had many productive hours with the IBM laptop, but it is now like an old jacket, and will need to be replaced. The battery issue alone may cause me to change brands.
Recently, a 3rd problem has sometimes occurred - the port for the printer cable is no longer reliable. Sometimes I must reach behind the PC and twist the port in order to complete a print routine. In its 3rd year of service, I think this PC is wearing out quickly.
