I work for Sony technical support. Biased? No. I have to support these things, so I have no fondness for problem units. You've seen the ads? They are all true. This machine is ideal for both the business user & the computer novice. As long as you are careful with installing & removing software ( as with any computer system) you will find a world of delight and usefulness from this unit. It is small and powerful. You can use the included Ilink adaptor & software for capturing video from your digital camera or camcorder, and to transfer file at high speed between this and another similarly equipped ieee1394 compliant machine. The included software bundle is magnificent, and the digital editing software is supported for both the novice user who just wants to save home movies & still pictures to the semi-professional who needs more expanded capabilities. This model even comes in a Windows 2000 model with the same software bundle and Win2000 for extremely stable operation. Be careful what you choose to install on this unit, however, because all software is not compatible with the Win2000 Operating system. Check with your software vendor prior to installation to avoid any problems. As long as you exhibit the necessary care with this unit as you would do with any other precision electronic device, you should have years of trouble-free use.
