The Sony VAIO PCG-SR7K is the best laptop I have owned, and it's my second VAIO. I like portable laptops and this is the first one that really qualifies for that title. Here's why: it's 3 lbs (with the battery), the battery that comes with this machine can deliver over 4 hours of use, the hard drive can store ALL of your favorite apps and important data files (12 GB), and it has a feature that delivers the closest thing to instant on in a laptop than I have ever seen. There is a power management feature installed that allows you to close the lid and leave the laptop on for over 300 hours! That means you can carry the laptop around with you all day and pop it open to check your schedule or write a letter without going through the boot-up process several times a day. Depending on how you use this lightweight laptop, you may not need your PDA anymore. (As you may know, power management on laptops is usually a distraction, but I think Sony got it right this time).
My biggest disappointment with this VAIO is its missing serial port. I still have peripherals that need to plug into serial ports and this laptop does not have one! The idea, I guess, is to use the USB port, but unless you have upgraded to USB-this and USB-that, open your wallet and do so, if you want buy this machine.
BTW, you will be pleasantly surprised to see that the software that comes installed on this is stuff you will actually use. I particularly appreciated getting Word 2000.
