I purchased the Sony SR7k because of its combination 600MHz, 12GB hard drive, 128Mram and graphics quality. I travel 3-6/months to give seminars and lectures via digital projection and this machine is great for it - I often get more questions about the computer than my presentations! Video clips play smoothly and handles large images with ease.
I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who travels and needs to make computer presentations and needs a powerful machine for other activities (spreadsheets, image editing etc.)
However, getting peripherals (floppy drive, USB mouse, etc. ) was a chore-none of the stores had them even tho' they had the computer. Finally called Sony Direct and received the items promptly.
The machine comes with Windows2000NT so you may have to obtain different drivers for your peripherals. I had to download new drivers for my usb zip and my cd burner.
The worst feature of this machine (in my usage) is that it does not have a monitor plug- so in order to plug into a digital projector, you must use the adapter they provide to you that will bridge between the computer and the monitor/projector plug - lose this adapter and you are sunk for presentation! I immediately called Sony Direct to get 3 more as backups (the adapter is small and very easy to misplace) but they are back ordered until December.
The built in speakers are only ok - they are clear but are surprisingly 'tinny' for a Sony product - sound through the ear phone plug is great.
You may find that you have to take several of the items that Sony placed into the automatic boot up - they take substantial amounts of ram and you have less than half of the 128Mram to use unless you modify the startup.
The last minor complaint is that I spent another $140 on the very cool computer brief that comes with it, however, the pouches were so tight that getting the peripherals into them was extremely difficult - if you buy this brief, I would recommend that you try fitting the peripherals into the pouches before you buy.
