| jeffs320's Full Review: Sony VAIO XG29 PC Notebook |
Being a Sony employee, you would think that I would be biased in my opinion. Guess what, I may be slightly biased, but if you want me to tell you my opinion about Sony Car Audio, then just email me because they have the content filter here and I can't use 4 letter words! ;-)
ANYWAYS, I really think that the PCG-XG29 is our best Notebook if you are looking for full sized. It basically comes down the XG series or the F series notebooks in this area, and I personally would go with the XG29. Main reason? If you buy one of the F series Notebooks, you get what you have and everything is integrated into the notebook and you can only add memory. With the XG series notebooks, you also have the versatility of a hot-swappable drive bay that you can use for the DVDROM drive that is included, or you can purchase an optional CDRW drive or additional Hard Drive that will fit into this drive. So rather than saying "Buy an external CDRW drive" or "Buy a PCMCIA Hard Drive," we can say "OH, you need more Hard Drive Space? We have a 2nd HD you can install in the computer." Makes it work better if you ask me...
Also another added bonus is that the computer comes with all the software you need to do digital video editing if you want to. If you have a Sony Video camera, it makes it even easier, and Tech Support can walk you getting it connected in about 5 minutes.
OH< and another advantage of the XG series over the F series if you are a gamer at all is that the XG series has a 3D accelerator chip for the video card, and the F series notebooks do not. A lot of notebook computers do not have 3D acceleration, but this one does, and it works for running a Quake 2 serer when you are working overnight with nothing better to do...not that I would know, of course! :)
If you are looking for a full sized Notebook computer, I would have to say that this would be the one. If you want to do more comparisons, go to www.ita.sel.sony.com and go to products and it will list all the specs on al of Sony's computers...
