I have been using my Sony for sometime. It's been a nice little laptop, but it's not completely to the level where it should be for it's price. True my complaints come from only two areas. But let's start with the dvd. First, the dvd-cdrom only works some of the time. Often the system needs to reboot to open the cd-rom drive. The system should automatically see that I have: a) have a CD-ROM and b) it's a DVD. This is a big pain in the a**. All I can say is that someone needs to code better drivers for this H/W ASAP. Restarting the system over and over to get a drive working isn't a great modal for success. My other complaint about the dvd-cdrom is that the computer has to be plugged into the wall in order to watch DVD movies. So, no dvd on the airplane with this computer. If I try to watch a movie w/o the computer plugged into the wall, the system will not play any movies.
On a mechanical note there's a flap on the back of the Sony that's used to cover up the USB ports. However, this flab which should easily move by hand; requires a screw driver for me to open and close it.
Other then that the system has a great look and feel. The monitor is gorgeous and your friends will drool over it. But as far as your dollar will go, I think the titanium laptop from apple destroys this system on every lever. And for the sake on an argument we can start at the price. Not only do you get all the features of the Sony in apples new laptop, but you also the capability to burn DVDs. Plus, the full S/W studio to do it. All in all the Sony system is good, possibly bordering on great. I think they need to drop the price around 1000.
