| jtmad's Full Review: Sony VAIO XG29 PC Notebook |
I own a variety of Sony products, including the XG29, on which I am writing this opinion. I have been very happy with the multimedia functions, especially the iLink, or firewire, port. I use this in conjunction with the PC100 camcorder. Sony includes a great software package for capturing and editing video, including Adobe Premier LE. There is no other notebook sold at the retail level that can say the same thing. The screen is of high quality, and I have no complaints. In fact, it appears to be much nicer than some of it's competition.
I also travel quite a bit, and the XG is a nice notebook to carry around the airport. Battery life could be better, especially when playing back a DVD movie. If you are trying to watch a longer film, pack a spare battery.
The XG dock must be purchased in order to gain a parallel and serial port. More and more attention is being given to "legacy free" computers, but I still use a parallel printer, and did not like having to buy a separate piece to get it to work. The XG dock also gives you a composite video out port, and an extra USB port, but these are features that could have been included in the notebook.
Overall, the XG39 is a powerful, portable notebook that I am happy to have purchased
