| manoterror's Full Review: Sony VAIO Z505JS PC Notebook |
I have been using a desktop replacement for a while now and a friend gave me this laptop to ease the problem of mobility. Thank God. The desktop replacement is almost ten pounds, while the Sony is a scant 4 pounds. But of course you do sacrifice some performance and storage. Oh and everything costs an arm and a leg to buy.
I have had it for a few months now and love it. It is super portable, has a great screen and is very quiet. The keyboard is a bit awkward, but that is due to the small size of the machine. At home, I have a port replicator to make things easier. The screen is nice and bright, and movies look nice. But using it outside is a bit tough
not quite bright enough. Of course there isnt a CD or DVD drive in it, so you have to have an external one. Dont buy the Sony external drive, as it is $400. Ouch. You could buy a USB DVD burner for that.
I load movies from another machine to watch. But that brings up another issue
the hard drive. At 12 Gigs, it is somewhat small. Just my OS and programs take up almost 2/3rds of the drive. Not a lot of room for mp3s and movies. It really al boil down to portability. If that is what you need, go for it. If not, get something bigger and less fragile.
