I gave up a 7 pound Fujitsu for this and my life has gotten better every single day. Designed through and through, using clever small touches like folding power source (so the power source lays flat and the prongs don't poke out) I feared it might be too pretty to be practical. I was (mercifully) wrong.
Just enough power to run photoshop, mail, Word and all the staff of life kind of apps, an absolutely beautiful display, an internal modem, a camera for videoconferencing or plain old vanity (it caused me to become hypnotized by my own image) and a 6 gig hard drive were too seductive to pass up. I now take my laptop absolutely everywhere, it fits in my (surprisingly modest sized) purse, weighs less than 2 pounds, and never makes me stand there going should i or shouldn't I? Am I really going to use it? I just take it and go.If you get it, you must buy the CD rom player, I think they should just include it and jack the price up, and any old USB mouse (including ones deisgned for the imac and G3) really help if you're doing anything lengthy and involved, but the controls for the mouse (nipple and clickpads) are as good as any i've seen if not better.
I can't tell you how much this has - more than any other gadget since the remote control, improved the quality of my life. I whole heartedly endorse this machine, and I hate computers. (even though they're the tool with which i earn my living)
