I was hoping to be the first person to write an unbiased opinion on this product. I was saddened to see the epinion that beat me to it, until I read it and saw how freakin biased it was. I wonder if it's for real, or if it's some lame sony marketing guy trying to act like he's just some normal dude.. Nice 15 line paragraph that is one massive run-on sentence!
Anyway, let's get down to the actual product.
It's really nice. I'm not sure how big a person you have to be for it to fit in your pocket like the Sony employee guy says it does, but i'm pretty certain 99.9% of the world population could NOT fit it in a pocket. That being said, it's really small for the power it packs.
It's not the most powerful machine, and it certainly doesn't feel blazing, but it's not too slow either. What you give up in power, you get back in size and the fact that it runs pretty cool. The fan is fairly quiet too.
I don't know where they come up with the 5 hour battery life marketing mumbo-jumbo. I guess thats how long a fully charged battery will last you when you have the lcd dimmed, the hard drive parked, and you don't touch the computer for 5 hours. The standard battery that comes with the computer lasts me around 2 hours. You can buy bigger batteries if you want to shell out the $$$ for them.
I got this machine because I just started a website at www.AmIHotOrNot.com (check it out! sorry, shameless plug, i know!), and I need to carry a machine around at all times in case i need to get online fast. This machine combined with the new Ricochet 128K modem I just bought makes for a KILLER combination! Ultra light, and ultra small. Power is good enough, and the integrated camera is really neat.
I was wary of the fact that IBM pulled their plans to use the transmeta, and all the speculation about performance being unacceptable. Well, it's not blazing, but it's usable, and that combined with the size and adequate battery life made it the right choice for me.
Oh yea, last thing.. it runs Windows Me, which is basically Windows 98, which was basically windows 95, which means it basically crashes on me fairly frequently. Thankfully, it reboots really quickly! I wish I could install Windows 2000 on it, but i'm not sure if i can get all the right drivers if i do.

PS I don't play games, either. Probably sux for that..
