Obviously, many people like the Libretto 110 CT; it earns rave reviews from its owners. However, I find it has a ways to go before it's truly all it can be. How so? Please read on.
The Libretto certainly looked good when it was first introduced to the market; it had the first high resolution COLOR screen when all the other similarly-sized machines, like PDAs, had only black and white displays. Also, the Libretto had a real pentium processor, and not the 386 or 486-like chips in PDAs. In short, the Libretto was much more like a pocket computer than any other product.
Still, there are problems. First for me is the keyboard. Though the keys are larger the keys on some products, like the older HP200 palmtop, they are poorly spaced, jammed up against each other, and it's just to easy to hit two keys instead of one. Also, the keys lack good "feel"; there is just not much travel to the keys when you strike them, and the keyboard doesn't feel right for extended typing.
The display is nice, but diminutive, at about 7" diagonal. No matter how much you love this product, it's not for spreadsheet work, or even extended bouts of word processing with large, complicated documents.
Despite having some features making it resemble a computer, including a pentium chip, RAM and a modem, in other necessary areas it is lacking. It's just not the computer for situations which need a port replicator. And worse, like all the smallest subnotebook computers, it has an external floppy disc drive. Yech!! If it's one thing I demand in a portable computer, it's that its floppy disc drive be integrated. Besides being slower than an integrated floppy drive, a separate piece can be lost, and is more to carry.
You may very well like the Libretto; it's what many people want. Still, consider the above caveats before you buy one.
