A friend of mine recently purchased the Toshiba Tecra 8100, and I had a chance to play with it for a weekend. At this stage, I wouldn't be able to throw down over 3grand for a laptop, but let me tell you it's well worth the money. The unit is incredibly thin (only 1.4 inches), and weighs only 5.4 pounds which meant it was more than easy for me to tote it around and carry it with me. Another cool feature it has (I checked the manufacturer's website) is a monitor which checks all the hardware for breakdowns, and warns you before it stops working. I'm sure that would be helpful if you are busy and need it to be working 100% all the time.
It's pretty fast, as fast as my PC. 500MHz is really good for a laptop not to mention 64MB SDRAM (max is 256MB), a 12GB hard drive (good luck filling that up!), nice graphics card and all kinds of other high power gismos. so if you have a bit of money sitting around and are looking for a top of the line laptop I would recommend this over the others in the field. Although this laptop is pretty expensive, you get what you pay for.
