This notebook is mobile and it can also replace your desktop. It has a Pentium III 500 mobile CPU, 128 MB of RAM and is wrapped in a pretty silver case.
This is an improvement of the Tecra 8000 model. It has increased performance. The problem with this model is the price: $4099. It is quite expensive for a notebook. It has a beautiful sharp 14 inch screen. It can be enhanced by upgrading it to the S3 Savage MX 3D graphics chip set with 8 MB of SGRAM. I love the color and focus during DVD playing.
The model has 12 GB hard drive. It has a floppy disk drive which can be used externally or in the modular drive bay. There is a second hard disk battery, LS 120 and Zip drive modules. You can swap the modules with a utility that is included. The modem in the machine has 56 kbps. It is possible to add a different modem or an ethernet card by using one of two Type II PC Card slots.
There are some extra features which I like: a sliding cover which keeps the power button from switching on or off accidentally. There are programmable pressure sensitive buttons and a pointing stick button. I like the keyboard and the pointing stick device for use in typing. There are no external DVD ROM or CD ROM controls.
I like the battery life. It lasts three hours and 48 minutes which is a long time. The model weighs 6.2 pounds which is skinny for comparable notebooks.
This notebook is $600 more expensive than comparable models from Dell or Gateway. However, it is lighter than these and performs well. It is recommended.
