| jediknight's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Jornada 545 Pocket PC |
After doing research on pocket pcs and palm computers, I decided on the HP Jornada 540. It has 32 megs of internal storage and 16 megs of ram, with a color display. It has a headphone jack, and headphone included. There is a build in mp3 player, a one touch voice recorder, scrolling wheel on the side, 4 shortcut buttons and a compact flash card slot. The processor runs at 133 mhz, which is plenty fast for just about anything you can run. It is running windows CE professional which is the newest version out. It lets you run programs like money and Internet Explorer. With the new Internet Explorer, I can view jpegs on my palm pc, however it takes a while to load. another nice feature is it has a folding metal cover over the face. I have already proved this to be invaluable. I was using my HP in the field doing some geological mapping and dropped a piece of quartz in my pocket. A few hours later I pulled out my HP to make a quick note and found the cover terribly scratched. The metal cover saved my screen from severe destruction. I don't think many people will be dropping quartz in their pocket with a $550 computer, but I did. The only 2 problems I have had so far is that the money program would not sync with my Money 2001 on my desktop. After contacting Microsoft, they gave me a link to the newest version, and it has worked since. The other problem I have is that I cannot make it play mp3's off of my flashcard. The directory is "fixed" in one location. I contacted HP just the other day and am waiting for a response. Overall I say this little palm pc is exactly what I needed.
