| jp0099's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Jornada 548 Pocket PC |
The HP Jornada 548 is basically like a mini desktop with the amount of speed and memory it gives you. It runs off of a Windows operating system which allows you to use word, excel and other great Microsoft programs.
First you get 32mb of memory which can be upgraded but believe me you will never need to. Unless you purposely try to fill this baby up with everything you never will. I have tried using about 10 voice recordings, about 15 word documents and plety of contacts and it still runs with about the same speed as the day i bought it.
The first great thing about this is the programs that you get with it. You get programs like Word, Excel, Money and others. It also comes with Solitare, and about 3 calculators.
Great Features: First of all imagine if you need to write something down but don't have the time, its easy with the HP 548, just tap the red recording button on the left side and take down a voice recording. Then later listen to it and if you want jot in down on a word document. Next, the fact that if you need to you can quickly jot down a not on the quick to do list makes writing down quick appts. very easy. The fact that you can either type documents using a keyboard that pops up on the bottom portion of the screen or use the handwriting mode makes putting together word, and excel documents a breeze.
Poor Features: The only problem i have found is that when using the handwriting mode, the normal letters that you would think of are not able to be written the way you normally do. I would recommend you just use the easy keyboard method.
Included accessories: USB Cradle, Serial cable, earphones, and a metal cover.
I really like the way that you can use your cradle to either update documents on your pocket pc or on your desktop. If you don't want to go the extra mile to buy a modem for the pocket pc, just upload all of you new emails onto the hp, and read and reply to them on the plane ride. Then when arriving back home, just place it in the cradle and the email replies will be sent to the orig. sender.
Earphones are a plus because if you want, you can listen to mp3 files or watch windows media files and listen to them without having to bother people sitting next to you.
The LiIon rechargeable batteries are basically $20+ and you get them built in.. They last for about 2 hours, take about 1 hour to recharge.
Take my advice for the money there is no better pda on the market; with all the memory you get, the color screen, the fast processor and all the accesories this is the best buy.
