Pros: Color screen, compact flash slot, works great with Targus Stoaway keyboard
Cons: Big and Heavy. Can't upgrade to Pocket PC 2002
The Bottom Line: I rate the 548 as an excellent buy because of the significant price drop and because of it's versatility

| jrogel's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Jornada 548 Pocket PC |
I bought my 548 about 2 years ago when it was not the in thing to spend more than $500 for a Pocket PC. Well, I did...and for the most part, I've been really pleased with it. I sync it with my outlook at work and find myself pretty lost if I don't have it everywhere I go. The color screen is not nearly as sharp as the new IPAQ's but is bright enough not to complain when viewed in direct sunlight. Although it's pretty big, the cover acts as a pretty good protection device. I have a couple other covers that are different colors that I purchased online from HP.
I recently discovered that the Minstrel 540 wireless cdpd modems are now priced at about $40. This is a lot more cost effective than their opening price of $369.00. It comes with an Omnisky Service Pack but I found that I was able to call AT&T and get the same service for $10.00 cheaper per month. With the Minstrel modem, my HP 548 is even bigger.
Bottom line is that with all the 2002 models coming out, I've see the 548 drop drastically in price. I saw it at one retailer for $299.00 without any rebates at all. It might be a better buy than the others if you want to save some bucks to buy the Stowaway Keyboard by Targus. It's a must have if you intend to use it for typing.
