Finally I own a pda that i love. After being caught with the itch to buy a pda, and not knowing much about who made what, i rushed out to buy a palm vii. Not that I really needed a pda but i wanted one as a toy.
I'm a college student and I figured it would help me to remember H.W. and those test's that I forget about until I walk in class the day of them(oops!). I thought that the Palm vii had everything, internet access, quick speed a great operating system(Palm)and since it was made by Palm I figured that it was the best(oh the error in my ways). My friend owned one that i glimpsed at and the only thing that it didn't seem to have was color, which i thought wasn't that important(more on that later). After using it for a few days and having syncing problems with the serial cable I got pretty annoyed and returned it.
Not wanting to make a mistake of rushing into another expensive piece of hardware I decided to go on-line and do my research. I learned all about the Palm models, and even looked at the other operating system, Pocket PC. I went out to some stores and played around with the Pocket PC's intrigued by their great color displays. For those that don't think color makes that much of a difference, IT DOES. (Note:If you don't plan on buying color model, don't even look at one or you'll be hooked.)
While I was impressed with the color of Pocket PC I soon got bored with it just from the small amount of time that I was playing with the store model. That, and the fact that I couldn't find a Compaq ipaq anywhere (which I probably would have rushed into buying just from all the hype around it). I came home went back on-line just surfing for info.
It was around this time that I came across the Visor line of pda's by Handspring. "Who the *heck* is Handspring?", I thought to myself. (Little did I know it was founded by the same people who started Palm)
Impressed by all the reviews that I read and from the capabilities of visor such as expandability, and also the speed and color of the Prism line, I decided to buy a Prism.
Boy am I glad I did. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I Love it! The color is great, the usb cable is fast and convenient for me. I just spend a few moments in the morning to sync it up to my desktop and I'm ready for the day. The only problem that I did notice was that I had trouble with the Graffiti, which I've heard that other owners have had. At first, in denial that there was anything wrong with my Prism I tried to live with it, but a few days ago I downloaded the free patch for the Graffiti problem(I guess they admitted to the problem as well). Now the Graffiti works great. I can write almost as fast as on paper.
The Palm O.S. is hands-down the best one as of now. And the capabilities of the Prism are perfect for me, its fast, not as fast as Pocket Pc but I'm haven't been annoyed yet, (and I am very impatient). The memory is great, I have alot of applications on it now, including games which are addictive and handy for those boring lectures and my memory isn't even half way full. The Prism is by all means the way to go. And if you can't rationalize paying the extra of color, I would recommend something else from the Visor line.
