| patricia63126's Full Review: Handspring Visor Prism Handheld |
I decided back in March 2004 that I wanted to start using a PDA. Being of the old days of the planner/organizer, I thought this would really help to organize my personal life with doctor appointments etc. and professional life with meetings, projects and reoccurring appointments. I decided not to buy it new, but purchased it for around $60.00 off of Ebay. It came only with a travel charger and sync cradle but was able to go to the Handspring website and download the software. Once I got it, it was easy to use for the small amount of items that I put into it and had a nice color screen.
When I actually began using it, more on a regular basis at work and for home, I found it was more cumbersome than I thought, trying to type in all the projects, appointments, and daily tasks for work and home using the stylus to get the information into the PDA. In meetings, this was not working very well due to the large amount of information spoken about and the extensive projects that came from it. One of my supervisor's at work recommended that I purchase a keyboard that the PDA attaches to so that my entering of information would be quicker. So within a few weeks I purchased a keyboard, for around $10.00 from Ebay as well, hoping this would help. Fortunately, it was not as slow as just using the stylus but it was not as quick and using the pen and paper. I currently use the PDA in combination with my planner/organizer. Writing all the projects down and then transferring them to the PDA via Microsoft Outlook. All of the items within Outlook will sync to the PDA, the calendar, tasks, address book, etc.
One unfortunate thing is that at the office we have Windows 98 Second Edition and at home I have Windows XP, you cannot sync the PDA with two different versions. So all my personal information must be stored on the computer at work so that it will sync. Now my PDA basically sits in the sync cradle for most of the day, I sync it at night and carry it home, but do not use it to add appointments like I thought I would. You either have to use the stylus or to get out the keyboard, open it and type in the appointment, this is not convenient or quick, so normally I carry a small monthly calendar, write down the information and put it in Outlook the next day at the office and sync the information. Maybe what I need it for, this is not the right thing to carry, there maybe a more advanced PDA on the market to meet my needs, but for those that use it for appointments, etc and do not have a large vast of information that needs to be entered everyday, I would recommend this to you.
