kd5czf's Full Review: Handspring Visor Pro Handheld
The Visor Pro is a good handheld for those on a budget. It is durable and has lots of memory. Many software apps and game are available, many from right off of the Handspring website. The Springboard Slot lets you turn it into everything from a Cell phone to an internet ready machine.
I use mine for a calculator in my Chemistry class and the date book to keep track of assignments. When I get around to it, I'm going to get the wireless attachment so I can get on the internet.
They sell an attachment that allows you to use it as a digital camera, but the pictures are low quality and the camera drains the battery that much faster.
The Visor Pro comes equipped with 8MB of memory. To my knowledge, 8MB is the largest amount of memory offered on a Palm OS system. Palm OS is a great operating system and I highly recommend it. A short tutorial at first power-up teaches the user nearly everything one needs to know about using the system. Handspring Support can easily answer any other questions users might have.
The processing power of the Visor Pro is decent but not great. It is possible to overpower the Visor, at which point you must use the reset tool built into the stylus to do a reset. I have only had this problem once when I was trying to use a Remote Control Emulator (TV Remote control program)
The batteries can't be recharged and run out frequently. Turning off the device does not stop the battery drain, it just slows it. When the batteries die or are removed, if new batteries are not plugged in immediately, all of your changes are erased and you have to do a hotsync with your computer to recover them (if you remembered to back them up). There is no way to plug in an adapter for power either.
