I must agree with most of the other reviews that I have read, that when I first started to think about purchasing a PDA, I thought, "another gadget". I am a gadget freak at heart and I already owned a Sharp electronic organizer with only 25% memory used. I thought, "am I going to waste my money on another electronic gizmo?". Well after reading all the good reviews about it, I had to take the plunge.
After purchasing it, I immediately started reading the instructions. I was a little confused at first. Being a stereotypical male, I threw the instructions a side and turned the IIIxe on. To my amazement, I found it extremely easy to use and of course addictive. I also think the hotsync is fabulous, not only does it act as a backup but also it's easy to load apps by your pc and full size keyboard.
I also found numerous software applications on the internet. Personal finance, Business, Utilities, Schedulers, Games, and even whole books. Also I found a weekly newsletter (AOL PDA Community's Pocket Press) which I felt was very informative and actually helped me find new and exciting apps for my IIIxe.
I looked at many PDA's and found this was perfect for my needs. I did however wanted color screen but found out that those used up too much battery power, not to mention they were over $100 more, not worth it.
I ordered the Palm V and after reading more about it, felt that it was too much money and not much memory.
I also looked long and hard on a protective case for the IIIxe. I had a dilemma, should I purchased a nice looking leather case or go for the bulky protective case? I decided the emphasis should be on protection rather than looks. So I purchased the Rhino Shocksuit Sport Case. At first I was not impressed with it's looks for the ~$40, but I did end up dropping it out onto the parking lot and thought I ruined it. It took the hit with no damage what-so-ever. The case is easy to use and convenient. I especially like the stylus mounted on the outside of the case.
One last thing, the only trouble I had was that I sent the first one I ordered back because one of the 4 buttons on the unit stuck. They exchanged immediately and the one I have now works great.
