Two years ago, I purchased this little marvel and have used and abused it. Not once has my IIIex let me down. The alkaline batteries I use last well over a month and with so much software out there, you will be able to find the programs that suit your needs, from calculators to clocks, from guitar chord generators to lexical generators.
I purchased a smaller, more compact sync cable to put in my laptop computer bag and sync my PDA at the end of each day. The software links wonderfully and if I change my calendar on my laptop or on the PDA I have never had a problem with any updates. Though the computer software looks different than the PDA, I have no problem switching back and forth and can now write with the stylus as fast as I can type (it does take some effort to learn the graffiti).
My fourty-five year old eyes are growing dimmer, but still do not have any problems reading the screen. While it is indeed easier to look at a color screen, I have not found it necessary to switch and the costs are still a bit extreme for color. The night light illumination works well and again, is very adequate.
I purchase a padded leather zipper case and carry my Palm in a fanny pack and after two years, it still looks and works like new. The leather case carries an extra set of batteries which comes in handy, but again, you don't change the batteries very often (every other month).
The address book allows you to store all the information you could want on an individual, email, mobile, fax, home and work numbers, address and even shoe size, dress size and hat size if you want. 8 megabites is mega storage and two years of information has not put much of a dent in it.
My $249.00 original purchase has been one of the best investments I have ever made in my life, as this little powerhouse has saved my rear, many times. Who needs to spend more? If you are looking for a complete data collector for your life, the Palm IIIxe is a perfect palm pal.
