Where's the sexy? (Reply to this comment)
by abcGuy
Thank you for your review. I'm just now learning about the finer points of the Palm and will soon own one. I'm just wondering about your title. I expected to find some interesting commentary about why the Palm is sexy. I'm going to get one so I look all sleek, wired and just so damned important, I can't go anywhere without being hooked into my schedule and e-mail.

Thanks.

Good question. I am not affiliated with Palm, its competitors, or any 3rd party company.

I just love to make the most of my Palm V, and to present the good as well as the bad.

Thanks for reading!

This person is obviously an expert but leads the consumer to wonder if there is some affilation to the after-market companies that he/she reccommends to make better use of the Palm V. Seems almost like a salesman

Actually the Palm V... (Reply to this comment)

Tanster, Actually it isn't the Palm V that reversed the backlight but rather OS 3.03 that did this. You can see this happen to your Palm III also if you download the OS update that is freely available.

One additional frustration.... (Reply to this comment)
by smiles33
I love my Palm V for all the reasons you mentioned (and I, too, have the sleek hard case!). However, when writing memos (or any other application where the lines jut up close to the edge of the screen), I find I can't "click" and highlight (or even move the cursor!) to the first letter of the line, especially if it's a "small" letter like "i" or "l." Sometimes I'm writing furiously and neglect to check on correct spelling or spacing until I've finished the sentence, so when I try to go fix a problem at the beginning of the line, I encounter this VERY frustrating problem.

Eventually, I end up selecting the second letter and backspacing to edit the first letter. I'm wondering if it's time to go pick up an after-market stylus. Maybe one of those cool pen-and-stylus models!

Sincerely,
Anna

This was a highly informative review with clearly a lot of work put into it. Thank you for all of the software suggestions as well. I personally use a Handspring Visor Deluxe, but my friend uses a Palm V so I will be sure to direct him here. Thanks again, best regards,

I own a Palm V and while I haven't experienced all the quirks that you mentioned, I think that your opinion is right on, especially the sexy-cool look. Good job!

Interesting Facts (Reply to this comment)

Good stuff, glad you passed it around. It is these kind of things that we need to hear from other consumers, the stuff retail folks never want to tell you about, if they even know.

...for a new Plam (I own a Plam Professional), and I want to go with color this time. Based on your review of the Palm V, I am willing to spend a little extra on the Plam IIIc. Thanks...

Tanster, I'm really enjoying your reviews - great detail, nice light tone, and the perspective of a true user and consumer! Top quality stuff, and formatted to be very readable. You're on my WOT pronto!

p.s. Sweeper/Dave, if you've still got that unopened Palm V lying around, just send it over my way. I'll put it to good use. :)

Thank you, sweeper! When I first encountered some of these problems, I seriously considered going back to my Palm III. But when I became away of these shareware solutions, all was well with the world. Now I feel for my Palm V the way I feel about my BMW -- they can be annoying at times, but they're too cool to give up!

Tanster, I read your reviews on the Palm V and have gotten some good info, especially from this one. I'm a long-time user of the Palm. I still use my Palm III but have a Palm V in the original box in my desk. Haven't opened it yet. Your reviews are letting me know that I should be using some add on software. Maybe an old dog can learn new tricks! Good job and thanks again. Dave
