Late 1998 and early 1999 was a good time for online shopping. Stores were in competition for a customer base, and in fact were so desperate for said that there was no lack of coupons to make shopping online a great deal. In fact the rapid demise of online stores is testament to the fact that a business cannot succeed if you're giving away merchandise for free. And that's exactly what was happening.
Anyhow, this plethora of online steals and deals led to me purchasing a Palm V hard case for all of (drumroll please) $2.00.
My husband had recently purchased a Palm Pilot and wanted a hard case desperately. Personally, I was not thrilled to see any more money being spent after his purchasing this pricey (albeit handy) device. I was determined to get it for him at the best price possible. And well, I think I succeeded.
Who would benefit most from using this product?
This hard case it metal over plastic (anodized aluminum to be specific). It is relatively sturdy, while remaining light-weight. I would recommend it to anyone who uses a Palm device on a daily basis.
The good:
-- OK it won't stop a bullet, but it has withstood a good amount of abuse with nary a scratch
-- I find the silver metal and black plastic to be a sleek and sophisticated look
-- it has saved our investment in the Palm device itself more than once, it has been dropped on more than one ocassion with no negative impact
The bad:
-- I understand that it has a gap in order to allow infra-red communication between units; but, I do wish that it snapped closed in some fashion
-- at $2 this is probably one of my lifetime bests in regards to bargains; at full price, I'm not sure it would've been worth it
-- the original leatherette case my husband had been using has a belt-clip, this hard case would be well-served if it had something similar
Why did you choose this product over the competition?
At the time I wasn't aware of any competition in regards to hard cases. This was the matching case to my husband's hand-held computing device - and well you can't beat what I paid.
Which accessories work well with this product? Which don't?
As we have not purchased any other accessories I cannot speak to this.
In Conclusion
For the protection this has given my husband's Palm Pilot, I would've been happy to have paid up to $25 for this item.
All in all it does the job in a lightweight and attractive fashion, sleek and not at all bulky.
