Note: this review is better for the novice user.
Palm V was my first PDA, so I can't compare to legacy models or platforms. but how's this for added value: it's better than a pen and paper!
I only use it for calendar and address book. But let me tell you, it's still worth it. I will likely never use 95% of its power, and yet I feel the $400 was well spent.
I don't want to duplicate everyone else's epinions, so let me be brief on why I bought:
1. small size
2. screen clarity
3. lithium battery (rechargeable, 3 week life)
4. built-in MS Outlook synch
On the softer side: I bought the first day it was available, and I was definitely "the man" for a few weeks. I had VC partners feeling ashamed to pull out their bulky Palm IIIs at meetings. I still get props for its stylish look, a.k.a. its still fun to whip it out in certain situations.
It has performed flawlessly, and I've dropped it on a number of occasions. Quick note: the heavy stylus broke the first time I dropped IT, so I use the light one now which the unit isn't quite as good at reading.
The question really is, when is the reasonably priced, mass-market integrated Palm phone coming out? It's still life threatening to try and look up a number on the Palm and make a call on the cell while driving. Definitely need some voice recognition and product integration ASAP.
Bottom line: it's the best of what's available. It's my baby, I love it.
