The Palm Pilot Vx is most assuredly the best PDA in the Palm family, but it still doesn't combine all the best features of each of the Palm devices. My decision making process might explain why I believe this way.
The Palm Vx has the most memory of any of the Palm PDAs (8MB) in its smallest and sleekest case. The unit is beautiful to look at and comes off as being one of those everyday items that is so well constructed and designed that it ought to be on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It truly has the feel of being exactly the right size and weight to both fit in your hand without being too heavy, and be large and heavy enough not to get lost.
I had looked at both the III and VII series (excluding the 3c which was not available at the time) and opted not to choose either of those, as the III and VII series were too bulky and seemed not to be very memory-laden. The VII also seemed like overkill as I did not initially plan to get the wireless service. Also the wireless plan is confusing if one is a heavy internet user. The plan is a flat rate for a certain number of kilobytes, and then an additional charge per kilobyte beyond that (like anyone knows how many kilobytes they are downloading at any one time!!)
Perhaps Palm is in the process of updating its offerings, and what I am about to propose is already in the works, but nevertheless I will suggest it anyway. Palm should make a wireless color device with 16MB (expandable to 32MB) in the same size case as the V series. If they would do this I would buy the unit in a heartbeat.
