I've just brought my second PDA. A Handspring Platinum. And I thought that why not go to extra $100 for a cool looking keyboard?
I must say that this has been one of the best desion I've ever made.
The Stowaway Portable Keyboard could have cost $200 and it would still be worth the money !
If you go to www.thinkoutside.com you can see that these guys have won a lot of prices for the design of this wonder product. But I have a healthy skepticism for all these prices: who gives them and why?
So I went looking at customers reviews, but there aren't many around. But the ones that where, where all raving about this product.
Some were complaing about typing speed. That if you were a fast typer, you could type faster than the screen could display. But all of this have been corrected from Stowaway. The keyboard now ships with a version 1.2 of the keyboard driver (you can download it for free at www.thinkoutside.com), and this version is, as far a I am aware of, totaly bug free.
I looked at a lot of different keyboards for the Palm-powered PDAs, but all of them are in one piece. And that's where the Stowaway comes in. It folds in four and when folded it have more or less the same size as a Palm III (2-3 mm thicker).
But this is really not about price and features. It's about freedom. Freedom from your desktop computer, and freedom from the weight of the notebook. This is the best thing I have ever brought.
In the morning I just HotSync by Platinum, taking all the new e-mails with me. And now I can answer them everywhere (of course I could also had done that before. But now it's so easy).
I just unfold the keyboard, and plug in the Platinum and bing ! There's your *true* portable computer.
I'll recommend this to everyone how uses their PDA for more than just datebook and reminder... hey, I'll even recommend it to them.
I've said it before, and I'll keep on saying it: This is a great product.
