| skintigh's Full Review: Brother HL 1040 Laser Printer |
At 10 pages per minute this is very fast for it's price range. And the 600dpi laser quality is excellent for term papers and resumes.
When you first turn it on it sucks alot of power to heat up the drum. This dims your lights for a moment. Insert Tim the Tool Man grunting noise... :)
The printer has power-saving software which shuts it down when the computer is on. However, once the computer is off the power saving software is no longer running so the printer starts up its fans and consumes more power. I shut it off when I'm not using it...
It doesn't have a paper drawer but instead a little rack that holds about 50 pages. No, it wouldn't make a good network printer but it's perfect for the desk or home office.
Other than a few paper jams recently, I've had no problems. After two years it's starting to complain about low toner, but it still prints fine. A new toner cartridge is about $20 and not hard to find at CompUSA.
I printed my papers and resumes and all sorts of stuff work grad school on it and I have no complaints.
