| Urbanmt's Full Review: Canon BJC 1000 InkJet Printer |
I work from a home office. I have a great laser printer that I use for professional applications, and have had wonderful results in that respect. However, now my daughters are getting old enough to need the computer for school work, and they are starting to enjoy making their own greeting cards, creating pictures, etc. I began to want a color printer that would make their endeavors worth their time. While Christmas shopping, my husband and I stumbled on the Canon BJC-1000, on sale. I showed it to him and told him I wanted a basic color printer, something like this... He just picked it up and tossed it in the cart! (Yes, he later wrapped it and put it under the tree!)
I have had great results with this printer. It loaded and ran easily right off the bat. There have been no problems with jamming, error messages, or any other general printer problems. I have replaced the black cartridge twice in the five months since I've had the printer, but I've also used it extensively. I have not had to replace the color cartridge at all. The black cartridge runs $24, which is reasonable.
The drawbacks to the printer are:
It does run slowly. This isn't a big deal to me - you basically get what you pay for. I wanted an inexpensive, basic printer, and that's what it is. It's not lightning fast, and it's not fancy.
The printer only holds one cartridge at a time, so you have to switch from black to color and back, and store the cartridge not currently in use. Fortunately it's easy to do - just drop the printer faceplate, lift one lever, remove the cartridge, replace, drop the lever back down, close it and you're good to go. Takes 30 seconds. A little hassle, but again, it's a basic printer. The printer came with a little case to hold whichever cartridge is not currently in use.
It is not photo-quality printing. It does a decent job of printing photos, but again, it's a basic printer, don't expect photo-finishing.
I've loved this Canon printer. If you need higher quality results or more convenience, it would probably not be the right one for you. But for my uses, it's perfect.
