| Bruguru's Full Review: Canon BJC 1000 InkJet Printer |
I have not had much luck with printers. Prior to purchasing this Canon, I owned a Hewlett Packard (junk) and an Epson (even worse). Both of those printers cost me over $200 each and used liquid ink cartridges. The print quality deteriorated steadily over the time I owned them, only a little over a year in the case of the Epson, which finally stopped printing all together even with new cartridges. Since Epson wanted $50 just to look at the thing for repairs, I decided to junk it and seriously re-assess my printing priorities. What exactly had I been using my printer for? Mostly plain text printing with the occasional greeting card. I don't print photos, so I don't need photo quality. I prefer viewing my pictures on the computer. They're easier to store, and don't deteriorate over time.
All this being the case, I took the minimalist approach when looking for a printer this time around. I wanted an inexpensive unit that would suit my needs. I wasn't going to get burned on an expensive printer again. After browsing through Canon and Lexmark printers (I'd never buy an HP again. You couldn't pay me to take an Epson), I decided on the the Canon BJC-1000. The price was right. $59.95 less a $30.00 rebate gave me this printer for under $30. Cartridge prices were a consideration, but they ran about the same as my Epson. The cartridges are dry ink, so they don't evaporate and clog the heads. This is what Epson told me was happening with the liquid ink; I was told those cartridges need to be used within six months. I simply don't print that much. According to Canon, the dry ink will last indefinitely.
The BJC-1000 uses separate cartridges for black and color. I have owned the printer for about six months, the black is still going fine. The color had to be replaced a few weeks ago for about $25, but my kids have this Pokemon print utility and have been using the color ink frequently. Print quality is perfect for text. For pictures, including greeting cards and labels, it leaves a little to be desired, but I have found that running the paper through for a second print on top of the first makes the colors more vibrant. And again, I don't print much in color.
The printer has NEVER jammed on me. Not once. The feed is accurate and placement on the mark. Print speed is slightly on the slow side, but not bad. For $30.00 I can easily live with this.
All in all, if your print priorities are like mine, this is a fantastic printer. If you only get a year's worth of service for $30, it's well worth the price. I suspect you'll get many more, and be as happy with it as I am.
