| gormly's Full Review: Canon BJC 1000 InkJet Printer |
Ahem,
Today I start my new way of reviewing hardware.
I hope it is acceptable to everyone.
I setup and use the BJC1000 on a daily basis. I have found this printer to be the best quality printer for the money. After rebates, this printer can cost as little as $44.00. The power cable and print cartridge run more than the cost of the printer
(Am I the only one who thinks this is weird?)
My Rundown:
Setup:
Easy as pie, no hitches, the setup is part of Windows 98 SE
driver pool, so even if you lose or do not have the included software,
you can install the printer. Bundled software goes in just as easy
and is worth more than the cost of the printer.
Ease of Use:
Never a problem with the 1000. Plug it in and it is ready to go.
Quality of Print:
Again, based on cost, the quality is fantastic.
Use a black ink cartridge for letters or pages not needing color
as the color cartridge runs out quickly and slows you down a bit.
Color pages come out very nicely on ink jet paper and surprisingly
good enough on ordinary copier paper.
Card stock has some problems, but this is not a heavy-duty printer
to begin with.
Quality of Product:
Excellent! Canon did the consumer justice when they redesigned the 250!
Solid parts that will last the test of time. The power unit is separated
by just unscrewing a screw. 99% of all Hardware problems on printers are the power supply. Unscrew it, and replace with a new one if needed!
(Although the cost of the unit itself is so low, why pay the shipping charges for a new PS?) It was a good thought anyway.
Problems:
1. Cartridge life is as expected, short. The 1000 uses the BC05 and we all know it has a life of about 25 color pages at 35% coverage. Use a black cartridge whenever possible.
2. Power is always on. This may cause some problems over the life of the unit if you constantly power off your computer. I suggest you leave it powered on but only plug in the print cable when needed.
Bottom Line:
Great printer and good quality for the price. This is a perfect low cost solution! Move up to the 1000's brothers when you have the spare money to spend.
