| foster's Full Review: Canon BJC 2000 InkJet Printer |
I do not own a Canon printer. I would not pay money for a Canon printer. You could not PAY me to own a Canon printer. So why am I writing a review of them?
I work in a government agency; of course their primary goal in purchasing equipment is minimizing cost. And since Canons are cheap, we had a LOT of them. In our office we have probably used at least 40 Canon BJ-250 printers over the last 4 years - not good considering our staff is 15 people.
Seeing that this was not very cost effective, the agency tried upgrading a few of the busier work stations to the BJC-2000 series about 2 years ago. We have 4 or 5 of those. And their performance has only been a minimal improvement over their much less expensive predecessors. We finally replaced the printers at our public work stations with HP Laserjets (of course the staff still has to use the cheap printers).
I work in an employment resource room where we use many computers, each with its own printer. So I have seen plenty of Canons. And they ALL have the same problems. They go through ink quickly. The paper jams up frequently. And once a jam has occurred, they become useless until you turn off the printer and reboot the computer. Otherwise, all you will get is page after page of papers being spit out non-stop with one line of gibberish printed at the top.
The cartridges are not easy to insert correctly. You will think it went in just fine, then you turn on the printer, click print, and...nothing. No error message, no flashing light, just nothing. The computer acts as if the print job worked without a hitch. So you have to be psychic (or work with dozens of them like I do) in order to figure out that the cartridge is not in exactly right. And sometimes it takes 3-4-5 attempts before the darn thing is "happy".
I haven't had anywhere near as many problems at home (I own an HP deskjet)as I have had with the Canons I use at work. And I never will, because I will never let a Canon into my house.
