| randallw's Full Review: Canon BJC 2000 InkJet Printer |
(updated Aug 2007 then November 2007)
---------------------------
The printer suddenly quit working this month ( Nov 2007 ); there is no activity at all. It is basically 'dead', so a replacement Canon printer ( BJC 4200 ) has been purchased.
---------------------------
I was given a BJC 2000 from a family member; I needed a replacement for 11 year old (!!!) Panasonic dot-matrix (!!!) printer; the BJC 2000 isn't great, but it's a definite improvement; it's bubble jet printer, so it's faster than that old thing.
The BJC 2000 holds two ink cartridges: one for black ink, one for color. Does this limit the amount of color combinations that can be printed? *shrug*
The BJC uses a paper tray to feed single sheets ( with a lever that adjusts the machine's setting for paper thickness ); I have piles of paper designed for that old Panasonic...tractor feed paper....looks like i'll be tearing off plenty of tractor feeds for some time.
In practice, the printer needs about 2 min. for an 8 1/2 x 11 page.
The printer can print on standard sheets and special types that Canon makes, such as glossy photo, high resolution, d greeting cards, and envelopes.
The printer comes with a CD that has the required drivers, and some programs help you with printing; there is a "Status Monitor" that appears during a print job, informing you of how the print job is progressing.
I had an instance of one of the programs failing on me; had to reinstall it from the CD. :( Wasn't my fault!
The printer can print with different quality settings: standard, auto ( for higher quality ) and draft ( or more speed, less quality ).
The printer can print with different paper sizes, print in portrait or landscape orientation, and has the option of normal size print or scaled size ( these options are common for recent printers ).
The printer can print in reverse order; it has the option of collating; it can add a graphic stamp to documents.
This is a slightly obsolescent printer. It does not have a USB interface, nor does it allow memory to be added.
A brother has a different Canon printer; it sometimes has problems: prints funny, paper doesn't load well, cartridges die or run out of ink quickly...fairly bothersome machine....those problems haven't occurred with my machine yet.
