| mikemsd's Full Review: Canon BJC 6000 InkJet Printer |
The Canon BJC-6000 is a very nice overall printer. I think it would be great for a home / home office / low demand office environment. First let me start off with some of the features I like in it.
Things I like
Speed
The speed of this printer is pretty good. When I compared it to some of the more expensive laser printers, the pages per minute were equal. That is in black and white prints. In color prints, it is a little slower, but it is still very fast for a ink jet printer.
The listed speed is 8 pages per minute in black and white, and 5 pages per minute in color.
Separate Ink Tanks
Each color in the printer (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) are separate from each other. When one color runs out, you do not have to replace all of them. This can help cut back on cost of ink tanks, which is pretty high. I think this is a major selling point of the printer, and personally I would not buy a printer without this feature.
Print Quality
The print quality is excellent for the speed that it prints at. It can print almost photo perfect pictures out, and the quality is even better when used with special photo paper and photo ink. It's actually very hard to tell that it is just a print out when used with this paper. It actually looks very much like a real photo.
Noise
There is very little noise from this printer. The most that you can hear while it is running is the print head gliding back and forth. I have yet to hear it click or pop while working. It does have a few occasional clicks and pops during self cleaning and startup and shutdown, but otherwise it is a pretty quiet printer (at least compared to a dot matrix). It isn't the quietest ink jet I've seen though.
Things I don't like
Paper Feed
Paper jams are very common when using odd pieces of paper, like an envelope or thicker papers like greeting card stock, or business card stock. This can lead to prints that are slightly off, or a total misprint. But if you plan on using only regular paper, there shouldn't be any problem. This is my one and only major problem with this printer.
Consumables
The consumables such as printer ink are very expensive and can be used quickly if you make a lot of prints. If you make a lot of prints of black and white documents, a laser printer might be the direction you want to go. Ink jet printers may be cheap on the front end, but you will be hit with the consumables later on.
Overall Impression
My overall impression with this product is that it is a great product for the family / home user; the home office user that doesn't need to make a lot of prints, and needs some color; and the office user who will be using this printer by themselves for their own work and does not need to make lots of prints off of it.
The speed and quality of print is good, but I wouldn't recommend it for any multi user situation or high volume black and white printing. Overall rating... Good
