The worst investment ever!Where do I start? The infamous auto-feeder problem. I am the PC repair tech at a school district in Arizona. We purchased over one hundred of these printers last summer. We have had to fix every one of them for this problem. I have torn so many of these printers apart now that I think I can fix them with my eyes shut.
What I have found is that the problem does not rest on the gears mis-aligning, but on the paper-guide.
The paper-guide is a plastic guide that rest under the rollers that is made of very cheap plastic and is damaged very easily. The ends of the guide begin to accumulate pieces of plastic that stick up and do not allow the paper to feed through. If you find that the paper gets stuck half way through, then this is your problem.
Take a nail file and shave that plastic down.
Another problem with this printer is that the black ink cartridges dry up. They are expensive to replace. If this happens to you, tap the cartridge on a hard surface a few times. If that doesn't work, you'll need to buy a new one.
This is very inconvenient when having to be away from your printer for a long time (a couple of weeks). It will dry up in no time. Engineering oversight. The way the cartridge sits in the well exposes it to air because it rests right at the gap of the cover. The color cartridges are protected and do not produce this problem.
In summary, this printer is Canon's most problematic model. It has several different problems and they are not easy fixes for the common user. Unless it is given to you for free and have tons of free time to spend repairs, STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!
