| nellarlick's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 870 InkJet Printer |
My wife recently gave birth to our first child and I went to Walmart to get my 35mm films developed, but I was extremely disappointed with the photo quality which wasn't Walmart's fault but the camera's. So I said to myself...if you want something done right then do it yourself. With a digital camera and a printer such as the Epson 870, photo finishing rises to a new level. For important occasions such as my baby's birth, I want clear photos with vibrant colors. This printer delivers excellent photo quality and don't be fooled by the dots per inch (1440x720) because what really makes the difference in quality is the 5 color ink cartridge. Many other printers offer a higher dpi, but fail to produce superb pics.
I've had the 870 for a short time, but already I have produced b&w and color photos and I have been pleased with both. Using a high resolution with a digital camera is recommended because you don't want to be short changed in quality- and if you do then step backwards and use your prehistoric 35mm which I'm about ready to throw out. I haven't tried documents but I won't anyway since I'll use my old Lexmark 1020 for that rather than waste precious ink from the 870. Having two printers takes more room, however it does save $ in the long haul. Conicidently, in ZDnet's review of ink jet printers they rated the 870 as one of the most efficient printers on the market. Many ink jets are ink suckers so be careful.
I'm not sure what will be cheaper down the road: finishing photos at Walmart or on the 870? If you're like me and you hate having those 24 pack photos laying around in your drawers then consider a digital camera and the 870 since now I can print the photos which I truly want and at a premium quality. Photo paper is expensive but being self reliant is priceless.
