| KatScarlett's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Deskjet 952c InkJet Printer |
I've had my HP DeskJet 952C for several months now. When I went to buy it the information I had gotten from the internet, as well as from the salesperson I spoke to, told me that the 952 was the same exact printer as the 970, with the exception that the 952 can only hold 100 sheets of paper and the 970 can hold 150. For a $100 difference, and not being made of money, I decided on the 952 because honestly for me 50 pages extra in the tray just isn't real high on my priority list. So I bought it.
I got it home and installed it, as well as the software and I was ready to roll. One of the first things I did was get some of my handy-dandy photo quality paper out, stick it in the tray and print out a picture. Very impressive indeed. The picture was absolutely fabulous. The resolution is terrific and it's much faster than my old printer (that was 8 years old). I was really pleased with my purchase :)
Then, well, then I started putting it through it's paces and it wasn't keeping up very well. I tried printing a few envelopes and every time as the printer was spitting them out the edge of the envelope would get caught, the envelope would crumple and the machine would jam. I was determined though, it ended up taking 8 tries to get the @#$@)*#@ thing to print an envelope that was mailable. I was less than pleased with this. Still I figured for $100 I could just write up envelopes by hand.
Shortly after that I set it to double sided printing. This is a feature in which it will print out the odd pages first, you take them from the tray, turn them around and put them back into the feed tray to have the even numbered pages printed. Pretty cool feature by my way of thinking. So being the fan-fic (fan fiction) addict that I am I decided to print out some stories, double sided. The first few short stories I printed out it worked great! The screen that pops up and tells you to take the sheets, turn them over and press continue is really annoying in that you can't minimize it and it is automatically on top at all times. I just move it out of my way, but still, they can't come up with a window that you can minimize so that you can continue to work while you print? Harumph! I went on to try to print other, longer stories, and that's when the trouble really began. Suddenly the printer was sucking up too many sheets at a time, was skipping sheets, paper was getting jammed in it. It was a mess! I tried repeatedly to print out these stories but it was futile. This printer was just not going to cooperate. :(
The latest thing with it is that every time I turn it on it sucks a paper up, as if to print, then blinks the orange light at me and eventually spits the piece of paper out. I have NO idea why. Since this problem began I've been having a lot of trouble printing simple single sheet print outs. Why I just can't tell you, I have no idea.
Overall I would have to say don't buy this printer. I can only hope that the 970 performs better and with less problems. The truth is that the print quality is truly wonderful, but the drawbacks are too many to justify the cost.
