As a graphic designer, I was used to working with professional printers, and receiving materials printed on both offset printers and spit out of large copy-laser-printer combos like the Xerox Doc40. Then we ran into a problem with a specific project which necessitated purchasing our own high-end inkjet. It's not what people may consider a 'professional' printer, but I've had no complaints.
A client purchased this printer for me to use for a specific project, since the labels they had purchased for their CDs melted and fused with the drum on my chosen print shop's Doc40. We took it back to the shop, and setting it up was no problem whatsoever--we plugged it in, turned it on, and inserted the software CD. The drivers and software pretty much installed themselves, and we were ready to go.
Unfortunately, the first one broke irreparably within an hour of being set up. I'm not even sure what part it was that came flying out, but it had something to do with why the print cartridge got stuck and wouldn't move. Since we were under deadline, this was particularly stressful, however, I'm willing to write this off to a single, unfortunately defective product. Why? Because once this one was exchanged the next day, our second one has worked fabulously, taking up the slack and allowing us to finish the CDs under the wire and get them out for the release date.
The print quality on this model is excellent--just a shade below laser quality, and much less expensive. Its ink usage is tolerable for the amount of color we use in our documents, and the ease of use makes it possible for me to sit my clients down in front of it and tell them where to point and click.
Overall, I think this is one of the best pieces of office equipment we've invested in--it has eliminated a lot of print shop cost for our clients, and made it possible to do short runs, which would be extremely costly if we had to outsource them. I would have rated this a 5, except for the fact that we had to return the first one.
