Well, I was in the market for a printer that could handle photos. Wait a minute; my SPOUSE wanted me in the market for a printer that could handle photos!
I'd been happily using a Cannon BJC2100 for my printing jobs, until that fateful day when I printed a photo of favourite grandson sitting on Santa's lap. Suddenly, Santa was wearing ORANGE, and not red! It was a new print cartridge, high quality glossy paper and I had just scanned the photo in using my brand new HP ScanJet5370C, so while Ma was in her kerchief and I had my hat, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a need for a new printer.
I turned to epinion, and explored and explored, and printed and printed. THEN I turned to HPs home page and explored more and printed more. I finally selected the HP 932C printer. It had everything I needed (make that WANTED) and nothing extra (except the software!) PLUS, HP had a rebate in effect. With shipping and handling, the total price was $236.10!
So, I ordered on line on 19 December at about 6:30 PM EST. The order came complete with 'standard 2-day ground shipment.' You can imagine my surprise when at 11:30 AM on 20 December, FedEx was at the door with my printer!
Okay, okay, it was supposed to be a Christmas present, but who can wait? I ran upstairs (translate = walked quickly) and unpacked the box.
First I saw this HUGE banner with two selections, either Parallel or USB. They folded the banner in such a way that you either had ONE or the other to read (printed back-to-back). Great idea. Within 10 minutes, the Cannon Bubble jet was relegated to another room and computer and the HP 932 was sitting generating a test page.
The software DID take a while to load, but frankly if I weren't so excited and actually READ the instructions, it would have been quicker.
The printer is up and running. The ONLY change I had to make was that the software, quite rightfully so, installed the HP as my default printer. I have a Cannon Multipass for daily run of the mill black and white printing. I changed that, and then...............
I went back to my hard drive, retrieved Grandson on Santa's knee, and installed the SAME sheet of high gloss Kodak paper in the HP 932. I opened MS Word and 'inserted' the photo. I moved it to the right side of the page and crossing my fingers, and touching them to the side of my nose (followed by the print button) I sat in amazement as Santa changed his clothing from Orange to Red.
The photo was absolutely FANTASTIC, and I now believe what all you reviewers have meant by 'Photo Shoppe quality.' I'm a believer.
This was the easiest hardware I've ever installed and it works (so far, in the first 3 hours that it's been running,) flawlessly. I MUST admit that my chair is at the level that I can see into the output chute and I'm amazed at how the arms slowly lift into place, a lot of clinking takes place and then AMAZINGLY fast (after the reviews I've read), my photo was in my hands and as I slid up the chimney, I was heard to exclaim, WOW, SANTA WASN'T RUN OVER BY A REINDEER, HE'S BEEN PRINTED BY AN HP!
I may edit this report IF I have any problems, but I'm gob smacked with the printer, the ease of set up and the outstanding quality of the output.
