| young65's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Deskjet 952c InkJet Printer |
I had a HP DeskJet 870Cse printer and liked it very much. I never had a problem with it during the three years I used it. So when I decided to get new faster and better printer, I decided to stay with Hewlett Packard. I went to HP's home page and looked at all their printer specifications. I decided that the HP DeskJet 952C was the one I wanted.
I went to Office Depot to look at printers and to test them. I liked the way the 952C printed on the normal setting and with plain paper. So I bought one for $249.00, which I thought was a good price. It came with both black and color cartridges but not full ones. I guess they have to save money somewhere. So make sure you buy ink cartridges because the ones that come with it will not last long. And like all printers you have to buy a printer cable. I got a USB cable because I was told that the printer will work better and faster.
This was the first hardware that I hooked up with a USB cable. The HP 952C printer has real good directions that come with it. I had no problems with the printer setup. The directions were easy to follow.
I like the Photo REt technology, drop on demand thermal inkjet printing. It will print real good photos on the best setting (600 x 600 dpi). On photo paper it will print @ 2400 x 1200 dpi. It takes a little longer but looks like a regular photo. It will also print fairly good photos on the normal setting. They do make faster and better printers but for the money the HP 952C does a good job.
The HP 952C will also print envelopes, 4" x 6" photos, banners, 8-1/2" x 11" and 8-1/2" x 14". It has a special slot for the 4" x 6" photo paper. It prints real fast in the draft mode with good looking text.
If the print cartridge status light flashes, you open the printer cover and the arrow on the print cartridge will line up with whatever is wrong . There is a "print cartridge OK", black cartridge low on ink", "color cartridge low on ink", "problem with black cartridge" or ""problem with color cartridge". You can also go to HP toolbox and click on estimated ink level and it will show you a graphic of how much ink is in both the black and color cartridges.
The ink cartridges are a little expensive. The duty cycle for the HP 952C is 3000 pages a month which makes it a good printed for home use. I am real happy with the HP 952C and would recomend it to anyone for a home printer.
