I bought an HP 1220C to replace my absolutely worn out 1120C. With a newer laptop for my digital world, I decided to go with the USB connection. Over the four days since pulling the 1220 out of the box and beginning the first install, I have had to:
Reinstall Windows
Reinstall other printers
Reinstall the 1220 at least six times
Use the System restore feature twice to go back to earlier configurations
Apologize to those around me
Convince the boss I'm actually doing SOMETHING.
The 1220C USB installation is a real challenge! Your machine may, or may not "see" the printer the first time you plug it in. You may not be able to print to it. Your USB hub may decide on a recount. Your System Analyzer will absolutely freak.
One other person made the mistake of putting the installation disk in first, resulting in a parallel (LPT1) connection when she really wanted USB. That is another can of worms to get rid of and correct.
****** All said, when it works, the 1220C is awesome. Good color, faster than most color printers I worked with, accurate, and versatile. If I can go a week or two without a major problem, I might be happier.
