Pros: Very Quiet, basic paper feed OK, cheap unit for the paper sizes it can handle
Cons: Extremely poor software, difficult to abort print jobs.
The Bottom Line: HP did not pay attention to loyal Customer input on urgently needed mechanical and software corrections and has missed the boat big-time.

| johnfalky's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Deskjet 1220cxi InkJet Printer |
The predecessor of this model had Major paper feed and software problems that are documented in many other reviews.
After using the HP1220 extensively for several weeks, I have found some improvements, but overall this unit still does not have a decent driver/software package and there are some major problems with the paper feed. Aborting or stopping a print job can cause the driver software to become confused and forces the print head off to the end of the carriage where it sits with the head drive belt chattering over the sprockets. The software/driver package does not "talk" well to Windows 98 and purging a print job to stop a problem is virtually impossible.
Printing on heavier paper, as with the older models is STILL A PROBLEM and apparently HP does not feel that this needs fixing. Often, the paper is not properly ejected from the unit and just hangs there. On batch jobs with heavy stock, the print setup is totally confused. Often the print heads just spray ink in space, which means a shutdown and extensive cleaning of the internal rollers with alcohol; very messy and stressful.
While the unit, when feeding from the standard feed tray works well, the alternate or "custom" features are literally dangerous to use because of the potential for damaging the mechanical part of the printer. While the price is very reasonable, I find the serious bugs that were carried over from older models so bad that I rate this unit as simply "not acceptable"
