| blautens's Full Review: Hewlett Packard 2000 Cse InkJet Printer |
I, like many others, experienced the mysterious problem where the printer would erroneously report printhead failures. But if you ran through the diags suggested on their website, the problem indicator would either shift from printhead to printhead, or to an ink cartridge. Then the problem would go away, for a week or more, never to be recreated. After spending about $200 in consumables, on a printer that only had a 4000 page count total in one year, I started annoying HP forum moderators. I found out HP made a midstream change in the printheads, and if you replace one printhead using one of the new style printheads, it can damage the printer or remaining printheads if ANY of the old style is left in. There is no written notice on the new printheads, on the website, ANYPLACE reference this "slight change". I started looking into the 2500C (same basic printer, large format) we have at work, and discovered similar printhead failures, well short of even 25% of their expected life cycle. After I started flaming HP on their community forum (and getting the neophyte first level support scripted answers), they finally give a phone number to call, specifically for DJ2000 problems. Bad sign number one, when your model has it's OWN customer support line. That's when I get the "secret" printhead scoop, and they will send me all new printheads for my trouble. But guess what? Too late! The printer was already toasted, and whenever I NEEDED a printout desperately, that's when the DJ2000 would decide to stop printing, but only for a few hours. And I paid EXTRA so I would have a reliable printer for home, instead of some $100 toy! I set it out by the curb. Paying HP to fix that printer would have given me a brain seizure. Particularly since when it came back, I'm sure the printer would do the same thing. I wouldn't wish that printer on my worst enemy, it's so frustrating. Please don't buy one!
