| Donnie013's Full Review: Hewlett Packard DeskJet 812c InkJet Printer |
When my daughter surprised me with a computer program that makes greeting cards, I knew right then I needed a new printer. After checking out many, I made my decision.
I purchased a Hewlett Packard Desk Jet 812C and couldnt be happier with it. The color is great and its easy to hookup and maintain. I dont need a printer that will work faster than I do.
While the much more expensive Laser Jets are wonderful and quick, they are not made for the things for which I need a printer. Perhaps if I were in a hectic environment or business, a Laser Jet would be great. But Im not. Im small time. My needs are simple and this little item fits me perfectly.
My HP Desk Jet is the perfect match for the kind of work I do. You see, in addition to a lot of heavy writing, much of what I do contains many, many graphics.
Lets break here about my needs and let me tell you about my printer.
First of all, the hook up was easy enough. All I did was put the CD in the computer and let it guide me through the installation. The entire printer was up and running within 15 minutes!
Color is important to me and for the longest time, only the extremely large, expensive Laser Jets offered color. Then I found the HP Color Desk Jet! What a treat! My little 812C has enough color to suit my needs. While its true that the color you see on your monitor isnt the exact color youll get, its close enough to not notice much of difference. The little difference you might notice isnt enough to distort or destroy the quality of your document. Dont forget, while youre looking at your monitor, youre looking at something with a light behind the screen. Paperwork is a different matter.
This little wonder sits on the corner of my desk, out of the way. When I click on print, I get what I want. No fuss, no muss! Just picture perfect quality.
As I said, text is very important. What you dont need is a manuscript being mailed to a publisher or a report being passed around to board members at a monthly meeting. You know youre better than that so why settle for a printer that isnt up to your own standards? With my little C12 I dont settle anymore. Its prints fast - between 4 and 6 pages of black ink per minute depending on your print setting. The highest quality of course would take longer. Color print, obviously takes longer than that but not much longer.
I wont even pretend to say Ive counted the many fonts available with this printer program but there must be at least 50! It actually offers more fonts than I think Ill ever use. But its nice to know theyre there.
While the paper tray holds up to 150 sheets of paper, my only regret is that, just like every other printer I looked at before making my purchase, is the size of the paper it can handle. Thats about the only thing I wish that was different. Its not made for wide paper. While the length of the paper is not the problem, the width (8-1/2) is. There are times, I love to be able to use something a bit bigger and cannot. But, as I said, Ive found this is the same with all desk jet printers. So, in that category, Im stuck.
This printer also has a built-in memory. Should for whatever reason your computer shuts down (power outage, that stupid window
. your computer has performed an illegal operation ..etc
.) whatever has been placed on your printer spool will stay there. As soon as you reboot, your printer will show a message on the screen stating that your job is saved and ready to print on command.
When its time to change ink jets, just raise the center panel on the printer, lift the cartridge holding levers and lift out the ink cartridge. Once you place the new cartridge in its slot, put the holding lever down and youre good to go! Its that easy and theres NO mess.
Once a new inkjet is installed, a window will pop up guiding you through the print alignment to ensure excellence in all your printing jobs.
Does this printer ever jam? Only once. And that was because I tried using paper that was slightly damp from sitting in the garage. Other than that, Ive had no problems with paper jams. It runs smoothly and evenly every time.
Does the ink ever smudge? It did once when I tried to print an envelope that was a really odd size. It shifted position in the printer and the ink smeared, but that was my fault not the fault of the printer.
What happens if you select print and then a window pops up saying youre out of paper? No problem. Put a piece of paper in the paper tray and press the paper button located on the front of the printer above the power button.
Did I mention how quiet this printer is? You hardly know its on!
Honestly, Id be lost without my HP 812C.
Would I recommend this HP printer to my friends? Definitely! And should it ever break (which I doubt it will), Id never hesitate to get another.
It works extremely well for my needs and my budget!
