Pros:Fast, quiet, good print quality, and incredibly easy to setup and use.
Cons:Powers itself down- have to wait for it to restart.
When I needed a replacement for my aging Deskjet, I knew that I needed a laser printer. A printer with higher quality text, and quality greyscale images. I was painfully tired of replacing dried out cartridges and of the slower speed of the inkjet printers. I wanted it to be quick, and be reliable.
The HP Laserjet is that.
Setting it up was easy as 1-2-3. The hardest part of setup was getting all of the protective tape off of the printer. The install CD autoran and immediately found the 1100. It took about 5 minutes from power cord plug-in to first printout. The CD also installed a number of fonts and the Smartfont utility which sought out all the fonts on my system and installed it in Windows. I really liked that. All the applications can now access them. Something else I liked is that the paper stands vertically in the paper handler. I may go a couple of weeks between prints and running dust through the print head is a bad thing. Since the paper stands vertically - no dust buildup. It handles most sizes of paper and has no problems with labels.
So, onto the print quality. It's excellent. The newsletters and training materials that I do are now much more professional looking. I can use all the help I can get. The text is very sharp and the images are very good. It's very helpful to be about to create a document for work and print it out ready to use. Webpage printouts are nearly exact to the original. The 1100 is rated for 600dpi. Images in greyscale are not as great as in color, but they are much better than printers I have had in the past. I am completely satisfied with the print quality.
When the printer is not in use it powers itself down. This is fine for reducing power consumption, and when you print, it starts itself up. This is a cool thing. It also occupies a small footprint(amount of deskspace), and since the paper comes out of the top of the printer I don't have to leave as much space open for it.
The printer had everything needed to get started. Power cord, printer cable, print cartridge and paper samples. It's compatible with 95/98 and NT. It comes standard with a one year warranty.
