| pstans's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Photosmart P1100 InkJet Printer |
I am a computer technician, and have worked on and tested many different styles and brands of ink jet and laser printers. Until the HP P1100 series printer, and now the P1224, photo printing on inkjet printers just didn't quite fit the bill.
This P1100 not only reproduces perfect pictures, but it is also probably the quietest printer I have come across. It also will do duplex printing with the optional duplexer, however it is rather cheesy and will cause jams when NOT doing duplex printing if attached, however for the price of the printer with duplex unit, it is still well worth the price. I would just recommend removing the duplex unit (just snaps on and off) when not doing a double sided print job.
I do not have a digital camera as of yet, but this printer will support a wide range of digital camera memory card media. It has two card slots built into the printer with an LCD display and all the pertinent buttons needed to print your pictures straight from your camera memory cards without using your computer.
I am certified to repair a whole slew of HP printers, and although they are a good quality printer, I have always been very dissapointed in the quality of their print job. Lexmark and Epson have always done a much better job, and Lexmark at a much lower cost. This time however, HP has stomped it's way to the top in one giant leap. The printers are too new to make any kind of judgement as to how they will stand up to the test of time, however if they are built with the same production ethics of the past HP line, I would imagine these P series printers will last a good long time.
There of course will always be the usual problems with pickup rollers and ink leakage as with all same style printers. Pickup rollers are rubber and depending on the conditions of the location of the printer, will determine the life of those. Too dry, and they won't last long at all, too damp, and the printer will start to jam faster than normal. Some things just haven't changed yet. :-)
