| SomeNYCGuy's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 1215vm InkJet Printer |
I loved this printer. I mean, my wife was jealous. I recently baught a Fuji digital camera, and I got this printer when I saw it could take the SmartMedia and CompactFlash memory cards.
What really made me buy it though, was that I was looking at a sample print, and I could not tell it wasn't a photo. I mean, I stared. I look for edges, grainyness, steps, anything. My previous color printer was an Epson Photo 700 which was nice, but from a couple inches away it was obvious to me that it was a printer.
So, I loved the print quality.
Then, I hooked it up, and it all went very smooth. USB connection to my PC, and presto, up and running in a few minutes.
So, I loved the setup.
I took my SmartMedia card out of my camera, popped it into the printer as a test. Poof! Prints. Amazing. I then discovered that the media slot on the printer appeared as a storage device on my PC, so I didn't have to connect my camera. Very cool! (though, the camera's USB connection transfers images to my PC much faster).
So, I love operation without a computer.
Then I tried to print from the HP utilities. Again, the layout, the formatting of images, a piece of cake!
So, I loved printing form the PC.
I then printed a big 8x10 print, and I was in love. This picture was fantastic. I stared and stared, and though I found the type of quality that the Primera and Kodak printers (over $1,500) would achieve.
Life, was good.
Until, I dropped some water on the print. And the ink ran off the page like it was in a race. I was really suprised by this. Are all inkjet inks this vulnerable to water? I dunno. I do know that I've had 2 prints ruined by it (we aren't sloppy, we just have an 8-month old daughter).
So, I learn to be careful with the prints. Other than that, this was an excellent buy.
