So you are out shopping for a printer are you? Your looking to get a decent printer and not have to pay a bundle. But what are the odds right? Well the answer lies within the Lexmark Z11 color ink jet printer.
The Z11 is relatively in expensive running for about $89.00 as we speak on http://www.lexmark.com/printers/inkjet/Z11/. And temporarily until July 15th 2000 you can receive a $40.00 rebate from the manufacturer. Thus making this printer run you about $49.00 (Tax and Shipping not included).
The Z11 is capable of printing at 1200 x 1200 DPI ( dots per inch). Owning one myself as I needed a printer and could not pass up a $50 deal from a well known and proven manufacturer. I figured I would buy this cause it prints at a high DPI and in inexpensive. I don't do allot of printing so I didn't really need anything special.
I brought the Z11 home hooked up the printer cable plugged in the power supply and moved on to installing the driver and software. This process was also simplified by the GUI interface of the Z11 enclosed install CD-ROM. However note that the printer does not come packaged with a printer cord and it will need to be purchased separately. A printer cable will run you approximately another $15 -25 dollars if you do not have one already.
The Z11 runs using only one colored inject cartridge (12a1980) also sold on the above site. This cartridge produces both the black and white as well as the colored images. It will also support the photo injet cartridge (12a1990). The 12a1980 runs $36.99 , and the 12a1990 runs $39.99 on the web site. Although there is not separate cartridges for black and colored, the printer does an adequate job in printing both text files as well as graphics.
The Lexmark control program also bundled on the CD-ROM gives you a little more control over your printing. It allows you to select how many copies you want to print of a particular document, the resolution (DPI) you wish, as well as red/blue/and green shading adjustments. The control program also gives you the option for alignment and cleaning of the print nozzle. Another nice little feature of the control program is that as long as you don't disconnect the printer form the computer, it gives a pretty accurate reading as to how much ink is left in the cartridge you are currently using.
I have been really impressed with the Z11 , it prints nice images and the black and white text is crisp. I didn't expect to get this kind of quality out of a $50 dollar printer I can tell you that much, but Lexmark has proven me wrong. There still are obviously printers out there that cost much more and print much better. But if you are looking for a printer that prints good and is easy on the wallet , give the Z11 a shot.
