| linda1527's Full Review: Lexmark Jet Z11 InkJet Printer |
You've all seen the commercial about the energizer bunny? You know the one with the little bunny that just keeps going and going and going. Well that's what came with my PC as part of a package when I purchased it last year. I'm talking about the Lexmark Z11 color jetprinter. When seeking advice about what to purchase in a PC and printer I was even told by someone in the family not to get the cheapest printer, and try to stay away from Lexmark. Well, I did the opposite and I'm not sorry in the least.
Lexmark Z11 Color Jetprinter
For the price of $99 if you buy it outright, but most stores give you a $50 rebate which is what I also got when I bought this. So for $49 and almost a year it's still running with nary a problem.
The printer comes with a standard color cartridge and of course you'll want to buy just a black cartridge for everyday printing needs like your e-mails and the like. Cartridges are the most expensive-- running about $31 to $35. I'm now on the 3rd black cartridge and still have the original color printer cartridge for fancier (cards and the like) printing.
It comes with a CD-ROM with easy-to-follow instructions when first using. An easy-to-follow booklet accompanies the printer that shows you how from everything to using the parts of the printer, understanding the lights, printer properties, caring for your print cartridges, and the like. You can place up to 100 sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder and it prints 4 pages in 1 minute.
QUALITY OF PRINT
The pages come out crystal clear, but the only thing I would warn you about is, because this is inkjet, it can take up to 24 hours to dry completely, so if you've printed out something you wish to high-light for example, please wait or the ink will run or smudge.
I've used it with the color cartridge for a Christmas letter last year and envelopes. Never once had a jam even when using the envelopes.
The Voice
The first time I used this to print something and 'the voice came on to say "printing started" it nearly threw me off the chair. Of course, I had to turn the volume down after that so it didn't wake the whole neighborhood. The printer icon shows what is being printed, how much ink level is left, how many pages, percentage of the job, i.e. pages 1 of 8. You have the option of course of canceling the print job at any time. The voice again comes on and says "printing completed."
Don't do what I did (not read all of the instructions)!
There is even a section for storing an extra print cartridge (wish I had read this). The cartridge storage unit on the back of the machine provides a convenient place to store an extra (used) print cartridge to prevent it from drying out. I once removed the color cartridge and replaced it in the accompanying box, set it on my beautiful butcher block table where my PC and printer now sit. I put the box on the table and it had sat there a while before I decided to 'clean off my table of all it's papers and the like. Well, guess what? It leaks! Even in the box-- it had leaked all over the spot I had set it and the ink bled right into the grain of my once beautiful table. Had I taken the time to read the handy little booklet I wouldn't now be trying to figure out how to get that nasty 'spot out of my table. If anybody knows how I can restore it to its natural color, all help is appreciated.

Knock wood (my once beautiful table), that I have not had to contact Lexmark with any problems with my computer. So, I highly recommend this little gem, that just keeps on going, and going, and going! It may not have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive models, but it does get the job done!
