| latakiahaze's Full Review: Lexmark Jet Z11 InkJet Printer |
The Lexmark z11 is one of the cheapest printers you can buy, and in some areas it shows...
Mine came as a part of a 'bundle deal' with my PC and I wasn't expecting stunning print quality but in some areas I was pleasantly surprised.
Print quality is mixed - black and white text printing (ie. with the black and white cartridge not the colour cartridge)is surprisingly crisp, particularly on presentation stock. It certainly rivals printers 2 or 3 times the price. Don't try printing text with the colour cartridge - it's a pretty yucky brown and eats your cartridge. If you need text and images together, print one at a time.
Okay this printer isn't going to win any awards for colour printing - business graphics and clip art are reasonably good, photo printing is just acceptable despite its paper specs.
Speed isn't wonderful but not that bad for a budget inkjet, similarly it's not a noisy printer nor is it exactly quiet.
Swapping cartridges is easy but a bit of a pain.
Build quality is adequate but not stunning.
Media costs are a little higher than some printers (I would guess it's comparable with Hewlett-Packard but dearer than Epson). Black cartridges are generally cheaper than colour.
Supplied software is adequate for the job, but far from stunning. I would strongly advise switching your speakers off whilst printing unless you happen to like badly digitized speech telling you what the printer is doing...
Paper handling is adequate. It doesn't hold much, but then again if you wanted a high volume printer you wouldn't buy the z11. Occasional mis-feeds produce crooked results but generally its okay.
If you mainly print in black and white, aren't a heavy user and only occasionally need to print photos the Z11 will probably be more than adequate for your needs. It's not a bad printer its just mediocre but it is available at bargain prices. If its good enough for your needs it will produce reasonable results at a fair price.
